Conference 2000: Sacred Music - Sacred Calling was held from Sunday, July 16, to Wednesday, July 19, 2000 on the campus of Amherst College, Amherst, Massachusetts with over 150 members present.

The Conference included a Plenary Session entitled My Calling - My Job, and the following Workshops:

  • Healthy Voice Use: How to Warm up Choirs
  • Working with Children's Voices
  • Gospel Music You Can Use
  • Crash Course in Choral Conducting
  • The "I Can't Sing" Choir Program
  • Recently Published Organ Music
  • Handbell Conducting for the Organist or Choral Director
  • Understanding and Teaching Handbell Techniques
  • Repertory for the Adult Choir
  • Repertory for the Children's Choir


Four worship services in a variety of styles were held at the Amherst College Chapel, the First Congregational Church of Amherst, and the First Congregational Church of South Hadley, MA.

Notable presenters included Horace Clarence Boyer, Richard Coffey as the choral director-in-residence, Kayla Werlin and the Springfield Children's Chorus, the Rev. Martha Beckwith Peck, the Rev. Ronald Brown, the Rev. Steven Small, CONCORA (Connecticut Choral Artists — a professional ensemble) and many others.
