EDITOR'S NOTE
Dear Music and Worship Heros, Thinking outside the box. Shifting paradigms. Getting out of your comfort zone. Doing something new can be one of the most traumatic “leaps of faith” we musicians can experience. “We have always done it that way” can also be one of the most soul-sucking and joy-busting facets of what a church continues to force its congregation to live with. Traditions ARE essential, but finding new ways to pepper our services with praise and reflect God’s love can be transformative. In this issue, we hope to give you a few ideas to reflect on when trying new and different things musically and liturgically in worship. Various articles on ways to reconsider your worship and music practices might challenge your notions of how your congregation can be in community. Many thanks to all those who contributed to this issue out of the caring and goodness of their hearts. We start, however, with two articles from two people whose advice I always listen to very carefully. Brian and Amanda are giving us real strategies for dealing with the current atmosphere of division, uncertainty and fear that many of us are feeling right now. Along with all those articles come some music to use and a prayer from this month’s Conference Minister. As I move into the president’s chair for our beloved UCCMA in July, this will be my final journal. I feel so blessed to be a part of the last 6 years of journals with you. The amount I have learned from doing this is immense, and I cannot over-express the love and joy I have gained from being the editor. Neither can I express enough gratitude to all those who have so selflessly given of themselves as authors and composers, experts and collaborators, musicians and worship gurus. Because of a health crisis, the person ready to assume my duties has had to drop out. Due to this situation, we are now in great need of someone to take over as the editor of the UCCMA journal. Please let me know if you would be willing or if someone you know would be willing to take over this duty for us. We need to fill this position as soon as possible to keep the words and music flowing out to you.
